Word Worm – Education Game for Windows
Knowledge Probe is a company that specializes in developing computer games. Not your run-of-the-mill shoot’em up violent games. The company specializes in developing educational games. One of the games to be developed by Knowledge Probe is Word Worm.
Here are the bits and pieces you need to know about this piece of software. Let’s start with the download – it weighs in at some 1.5MB. This means the download will complete in very little time. Once downloaded, it is time to install the application. This will take little time as well.
Now the software works just fine on Windows XP and also on Windows Vista. Not so sure it will work with Windows 7 though, the latest iteration of the Microsoft-developed OS.
The goal of the game is to create words. To be more precise you have to use adjacent letters to make words and in the process create a tunnel. At each tunnel junction you have three directions for the next letter. The last letter of each word is also the first letter of the next word. A completed tunnel will contain a series of connected words.
Let’s say you start with the letter W -> you press up and down and left and right and you come up with the word JudiciaL. Press Enter and L will become the letter you have to use to create a new word. The process goes on until you can connect one side of the map with the other.
Don’t take too long though. You need to complete the tunnel before the Word Worm is let loose on your score. When the Word Worm is unleashed, it will eat up your score.
Speaking of time, you should know that Word Worm is a time limited trial. Also, in the trial version not all options and word lists are offered. The tunnels are short and the words have no more than 7 letters.

Cons
- Limited time trial – 15 minutes
- Not all options and word lists are offered in the trial version
- Game tips are displayed when you launch the game. This can be annoying – luckily enough the tips can be disabled.
